ROLE: Controls & Software Development Engineer - London - Position now filled

An excellent opportunity for a Control & Software Development Engineer is currently available within the ICAX Product Development Team. You will be taking responsibility for the development of our control systems, software, and IoT connectivity across an exciting range of renewable heating products in an agile environment.

  • Work includes a mixture of residential heat pump product development and large-scale bespoke heat pumps for the building industry
  • Understanding the requirements of product functions and design to draft controls inputs
  • Working with IEC 61131-3 programming languages to develop product control systems using the ISaGRAF and CODESYS platforms
  • Implementing logging, error reporting and security features across the product range
  • Developing the controls and connectivity strategy across the product range
  • Producing high level function block diagrams within the electrical, system integration and IoT elements of development, and undertaking design calculations
  • Developing integration of products with consumer interfaces using Modbus over TCP, HTML and other web-based languages
  • Opportunity to develop skills surrounding UI/UX elements through working with the consumer interfaces

Role Specific Requirements

  • Strong proficiency with IEC 61131-3 programming languages.
  • Good knowledge of industrial automation protocols including Modbus over RS485 and TCP/IP, BACnet IP and web-based programming languages including HTML/CSS and JavaScript.
  • Experience with a variety of hardware ranging from industrial PLCs to Linux based development boards is helpful.
  • At least 2 years’ experience with industrial or building automation and control.
  • Understanding of control and software within refrigeration or HVAC is desirable.
  • Good knowledge of network connectivity and IoT is desirable.
  • Knowledge of machine learning is desirable.
  • Familiarity with basic electrical design and understanding of wiring diagrams.

  • Able to ensure up to date and accurate data is held, producing updates and reports, and to assist in the business’s ongoing development.
